The Department of Economics, USC Dornsife INET is a research organization jointly funded by the Institute for New Economic Thinking and USC Dornsife. Established in 2014, the Institute is dedicated to creating viable methods and useful tools from decision theory and the theory of networks to alleviate problems related to globalization, unemployment, and increased economic inequalities. USC Dornsife INET recognizes that that the analysis of economic problems can no longer utilize idealized concepts of representative agents and competitive markets alone. New tools are necessary if we are to address the next global financial crises. Standard economic theorizing alone cannot succeed and must be augmented with the analysis of disaggregated transaction data, as well as experimental and survey data on individual behavior and their interactions.
USC Dornsife INET will continue to work on research projects focusing on financial markets, forecasting techniques, global modeling with special emphasis on the role of China, the empirical analysis of networks, and the measurement of social well-being. A complete list and description of the research projects are available at http://dornsife.usc.edu/econ/inet/. The Institute’s research themes cover a number of diverse areas, but all consider novel approaches to the analysis of interdependence, networks, and decision-making. The proposed themes contribute to the developments of new methodologies as well as substantive empirical applications that enhance our understanding of policy issues at different micro and macro levels.
Under the leadership of USC Dornsife INET Director, Hashem Pesaran, the Institute has been able to leverage funding and resources to attract talented postdoctoral fellows, associate fellows, and eminent scholars who have furthered the Institute’s research agenda. Postdoctoral Research Fellows will have an opportunity to work with USC Dornsife INET faculty and associate fellows on and off campus as well as with researchers from various universities and financial institutions across the globe. They will also have a chance to meet visiting scholars, participate in weekly team meetings, and organize conferences and seminars with distinguished guests.
Currently, USC Dornsife INET seeks to recruit multiple Postdoctoral Research Fellows for a two-year position starting September 1, 2017. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. We are looking for talented applicants with a strong record of accomplishment in the Institute’s research areas. Candidates must have recently received a PhD (or will have received their degree by September 2017). There are no teaching requirements associated with the position.
